Thriyv: Before Treatment Information Sheet – Local Cryotherapy
Purpose
This guide provides key information to help you prepare for your upcoming Local Cryotherapy session at Thriyv. Please read it carefully and contact us if you have any questions prior to your appointment.
About the Treatment
Local Cryotherapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses a targeted stream of cryogenically cooled air to deliver rapid cooling to a specific area of the body. The Cryo Science Cryo Penguin Performance Device delivers controlled temperatures between −80°C and −110°C to help relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and promote recovery. It can also support skin rejuvenation and tightening in aesthetic applications.
Expected Benefits
- Reduction in pain, inflammation, and swelling.
- Accelerated recovery from muscle or joint injuries.
- Enhanced circulation and tissue repair.
- Skin tightening and rejuvenation in targeted areas.
- Improved mobility and local comfort following exercise or strain.
How the Procedure Works
During treatment, a stream of cooled air is applied to the chosen area using a handheld device. The temperature and duration are adjusted to suit your specific needs, typically between 10 and 30 seconds per cycle, with 1–3 cycles performed. The sensation is of intense cold but should not be painful. Your clinician will monitor your comfort throughout.
Each session takes approximately 10–20 minutes including preparation and post-treatment assessment.
Treatment Course
Treatment frequency varies depending on the indication. For recovery and pain relief, 2–3 sessions per week may be recommended. For aesthetic use (such as skin tightening or rejuvenation), weekly sessions are typically advised. Your clinician will tailor a plan to your goals.
Medical and Consent Requirements
Before your appointment, you will need to complete a Medical History and Consent Form. Your clinician will assess your suitability for treatment, review your current medications, and identify any contraindications. Please inform your clinician of any recent injury, surgery, or change in health status.
Contraindications (When Treatment Cannot Proceed)
- Local Cryotherapy is not suitable for clients who:
