Thriyv: Aftercare Information Sheet – Cryolipolysis

Purpose

This guide outlines what to expect following your Cryolipolysis (fat freezing) treatment and how to care for the treated areas to ensure a safe recovery and optimal results. Please follow these instructions carefully.

Immediately After Treatment

The treated area may appear red, swollen, or slightly firm to the touch immediately after your session. You may also experience numbness, tingling, tenderness, or mild bruising, which are normal and temporary effects of the cooling process. These sensations typically subside within a few days, although mild numbness can persist for up to two weeks.

A gentle massage will be performed immediately after treatment to promote circulation and assist in breaking down fat cells. You may experience mild sensitivity following this massage.

Aftercare Advice

  • Keep the treated area clean and dry.
  • Avoid hot baths, saunas, or steam rooms for 24 hours.
  • Refrain from vigorous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen) for 24–48 hours, as these may interfere with your body’s natural fat elimination process.
  • Do not apply heat or cold compresses to the treated area.
  • Avoid tight clothing that may rub or irritate the skin.
  • Stay well-hydrated for the next 48 hours to support metabolic elimination of fat cells.
  • A light massage of the area once or twice daily can help enhance results and reduce any lumpiness.

Expected Reactions

You may experience:

  • Mild swelling, redness, or bruising lasting a few days.
  • Tenderness or sensitivity in the treated area for up to two weeks.
  • Temporary numbness or tingling, which can last up to three weeks.

These are normal reactions as your body processes the affected fat cells. The area will gradually return to normal as the treatment results develop.

Skin and Body Care Recommendations

  • Maintain a healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise routine to support fat metabolism.
  • Keep hydrated (1.5–2 litres of water per day) to assist the body’s natural lymphatic elimination process.
  • Gentle lymphatic drainage or massage can help enhance results.
  • Avoid additional Cryolipolysis or body contouring sessions on the same area for at least 6–12 weeks.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning on the treated area until any redness or bruising has fully settled.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects include temporary redness, bruising, tingling, and mild tenderness. Rarely, clients may experience prolonged numbness or hardness of the skin that resolves over time. Very rare complications include frostbite or paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (an increase in localised fat tissue), which will be discussed during your consultation.

When to Contact the Clinic

  • Please contact Thriyv immediately if you experience:
  • Severe or worsening pain, swelling, or skin blistering.
  • Persistent numbness or discolouration beyond 3 weeks.
  • Any signs of infection, such as warmth, redness, or discharge.
  • Any unexpected or concerning symptoms following treatment.

Results and Ongoing Care

Fat reduction begins gradually after 2–3 weeks, with visible improvement at 4–12 weeks. Full results are typically seen at 2–4 months post-treatment as your body naturally eliminates the affected fat cells. Maintaining a stable weight will help preserve your results.

Your clinician may recommend a review appointment to assess your progress and discuss further treatment if desired.
