Thriyv: Before Treatment Information Sheet – Lymphatic Drainage (Pressotherapy)

Purpose

This guide provides important information to help you prepare for your upcoming Lymphatic Drainage treatment at Thriyv. Please read it carefully and contact us if you have any questions prior to your appointment.

About the Treatment

Lymphatic Drainage using the Zemits Demeter 2.0 Pressotherapy System is a non-invasive mechanical therapy designed to enhance circulation, reduce fluid retention, and support detoxification. The treatment involves wearing a specially designed full-body garment that delivers gentle, rhythmic air pressure to the legs, abdomen, and arms. This pressure simulates manual lymphatic massage, encouraging the movement of lymph fluid and improving overall lymphatic and venous return.

Expected Benefits

  • Reduction in swelling, puffiness, and fluid retention.
  • Enhanced lymphatic and venous circulation.
  • Support for post-exercise recovery and muscle soreness.
  • Improvement in cellulite appearance and skin tone.
  • Relaxation and enhanced sense of wellbeing.

How the Procedure Works

You will be comfortably positioned on a treatment couch and fitted into a multi-chambered compression suit. The device will then apply controlled air pressure that inflates and deflates in sequence to gently massage the body.

Each session lasts between 45–60 minutes. The pressure is adjustable and will be tailored to your comfort level. The experience should feel relaxing and soothing, never painful.

Treatment Course

For general wellness or recovery, a course of 1–2 sessions per week is recommended. For clinical concerns such as lymphoedema, cellulite, or post-surgical swelling, your clinician may advise a more frequent course (3 sessions per week) initially, followed by maintenance treatments every few weeks.

Medical and Consent Requirements

Before your session, you will need to complete a Medical History and Consent Form. Your Thriyv clinician will review your health background to confirm suitability and determine the correct pressure setting. Please disclose any medical conditions, recent procedures, or medications that may affect circulation or healing.

Contraindications (When Treatment Cannot Proceed)

Lymphatic Drainage is not suitable for clients who:

  • Have a current or recent deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
  • Have severe cardiac insufficiency or uncontrolled heart failure.
  • Have an active infection, cellulitis, or open wound in the treatment area.
  • Have severe peripheral arterial disease or pulmonary oedema.
  • Have active cancer or metastatic disease affecting the lymphatic region.
  • Have had recent vascular or bypass surgery.
  • Are pregnant (especially in the first trimester or for abdominal treatment zones).
  • If you are unsure about your suitability, please contact the clinic in advance.

Possible Side Effects

  • Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle and low-risk procedure. Temporary redness, mild tingling, or the need to urinate more frequently may occur after treatment as the body processes lymphatic fluid. Rarely, clients may experience mild fatigue or light-headedness, which typically resolves within a few hours.
  • How to Prepare for Your Appointment
  • Stay well-hydrated before and after your treatment.
  • Avoid heavy meals or alcohol for at least two hours before your session.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  • Ensure the skin is clean and free from lotions or oils.
  • Use the restroom before treatment, as the session can stimulate kidney and bladder activity.
  • Inform your clinician of any new medical concerns, swelling, or changes in your health since your last visit.
