Thriyv: Before Treatment Information Sheet – Whole Body Cryotherapy
Purpose
This guide provides essential information to help you prepare for your upcoming Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) session at Thriyv. Please read it carefully and contact us if you have any questions before your appointment.
About the Treatment
Whole Body Cryotherapy is a controlled cold exposure treatment performed in a purpose-built cryochamber. The Cryoniq Cryo XC system delivers dry air cooled by liquid nitrogen to temperatures between −110°C and −140°C for short durations of 2–3 minutes. The rapid cooling triggers physiological responses such as vasoconstriction followed by vasodilation, endorphin release, and anti-inflammatory effects that support recovery, pain relief, and wellbeing.
Expected Benefits
- Reduction in pain, inflammation, and swelling.
- Enhanced recovery following exercise or injury.
- Improved sleep quality and energy levels.
- Boosted circulation and metabolic activity.
- Support for mood, focus, and general wellbeing.
How the Procedure Works
You will step into the cryochamber wearing protective clothing including socks, gloves, and footwear. The session lasts 3 minutes.
After exiting the chamber, your body will naturally rewarm, and you may feel invigorated or experience a mild tingling sensation as circulation increases. Your clinician will remain with you throughout for safety and monitoring.
Treatment Course
A typical course involves 2–3 sessions per week for 3–6 weeks, depending on your goals. Maintenance sessions can then be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly for continued benefit.
Medical and Consent Requirements
Before treatment, you will need to complete a Medical History and Consent Form. Your clinician will review your health background, blood pressure, and any medications to ensure you are suitable for cryotherapy. Please inform your clinician if you have any cardiovascular, respiratory, or neurological conditions, or if you have recently undergone surgery.
Contraindications (When Treatment Cannot Proceed)
- Whole Body Cryotherapy is not suitable for clients who:
- Are pregnant.
- Are under 18 years of age without parental consent.
- Have uncontrolled hypertension (≥160/100 mmHg).
- Have had a recent heart attack (<6 months), unstable angina, or irregular heart rhythm.

Possible Side Effects
Most clients tolerate treatment well. Temporary redness, mild dizziness, or light-headedness may occur but resolve quickly. Rare risks include frostbite or changes in blood pressure during treatment. Your clinician will ensure all safety procedures are followed to minimise risks.
