What An Obagi Blue Peel Radiance Chemical Peel looks like at Thriyv

A personalised consultation

Every aesthetics treatment at Thriyv begins with a comprehensive consultation. On your arrival at our Manchester City Centre wellness hub, one of our medical professionals will review your medical history, discuss your aesthetics goals and how Thriyv can help you achieve them. If all is well, and depending on your timescales, your treatment will go ahead the same day or be scheduled for a later date of your choosing.

As part of our commitment to client safety, our medical professionals may deem you unsuitable to progress with your intended treatment. Depending on the circumstances, your treatment may be deferred to a later date or postponed indefinitely. Regardless, your medical practitioner will fully inform you as to why and what alternatives may be available to you in the meantime.

Aftercare/downtime

Known by some as the red carpet peel, in the minutes and hours that follow, most clients develop a healthy “Golden Hour”-esque glow to their skin, helping them achieve a truly radiant look.

For clients with more sensitive skin, your may experience redness for 6-12 hours post-treatment. Therefore if you do have sensitive skin or it’s your first peel, it can be sensible to schedule your peel for a day where you’ve got lighter social commitments.

Over the next 7 days, your skin will begin to lightly shed. This means it is super important to remember your SPF and moisturiser, even on a cloudy day!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. 1. How long is an Obagi Blue Peel Radiance session at Thriyv Manchester?

A full session at our Manchester clinic takes approximately 30 minutes — including skin assessment, peel application, and post-peel skincare. For new clients, allow 45 minutes for the initial consultation with Dr Callum Shields (MBChB) to assess your skin and discuss your goals.

    2. How much does the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance cost at Thriyv?

Single Obagi Blue Peel Radiance treatments at our Manchester clinic are £135 per session. We also offer course pricing for the recommended 4–6 session protocol at a reduced rate — the most cost-effective way to achieve clinical results. View pricing

    3. What is the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance?

The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is a medical-grade chemical peel from Obagi Medical — the global gold-standard skincare brand used in dermatology practice for over 30 years. The peel combines:

    • Salicylic acid — exfoliates and clears pores, particularly effective for acne and congestion
    • Glycolic acid — improves skin tone, texture, and brightness
    • Lactic acid — hydrates and gently exfoliates, suitable for sensitive skin
    • Obagi’s proprietary blue base — controls penetration depth and delivers a controlled, even peel

The Blue Peel Radiance is one of the few medical-grade peels safe for all skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–VI), with no thermal damage and minimal downtime compared to deeper peels. It’s the entry point to the Obagi clinical range — and where most new aesthetic clients start their skin journey.

    4. What does the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance treat?

The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is clinically effective for:

    • Dullness and uneven skin tone — brightens and refines the complexion
    • Hyperpigmentation — including melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, and sun damage
    • Acne and congestion — clears active breakouts and prevents new ones
    • Acne scarring — improves texture and pigmentation
    • Fine lines and early ageing — supports collagen and skin turnover
    • Rough or textured skin — refines and smooths
    • Pre-event skin prep — instant glow before weddings, photoshoots, or holidays

Dr Cal will assess your skin at consultation and recommend whether the Blue Peel Radiance is right for you, or whether a deeper Obagi protocol may serve your goals better.

    5. How soon will I see results?

Most clients see immediate brightness and glow within 24–48 hours of treatment. Full results build over the days that follow as the outer skin layer naturally exfoliates:

    • 24–48 hours: initial glow and brightness
    • 3–7 days: visible exfoliation and skin renewal
    • 2 weeks: improvements in tone, texture, and clarity
    • 6 weeks (full course): clinically visible reduction in pigmentation, fine lines, and acne scarring

The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is an investment treatment — each session builds on the last. Most clients see strong results from 4–6 sessions spaced 2–3 weeks apart.

    6. How many Obagi Blue Peel Radiance sessions will I need?

Our recommended protocol is 4–6 sessions spaced 2–3 weeks apart:

    • Single peel: great for pre-event glow or first-time clients
    • Course of 4 sessions: noticeable improvement in tone, texture, and acne
    • Course of 6 sessions: clinical results for pigmentation, scarring, and skin quality
    • Maintenance: one peel every 6–12 weeks preserves results

Dr Cal will recommend a personalised protocol based on your skin and goals — not a generic package.

    7. Is the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance safe for darker skin tones?

Yes — and this is one of its key clinical advantages. The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is one of the few medical-grade chemical peels safe for all skin tones, Fitzpatrick I through VI.

Many traditional chemical peels carry significant risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) for clients with deeper skin tones — meaning darker skin types have historically been excluded from peel treatments. The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is formulated specifically to minimise this risk through its controlled penetration depth and Obagi’s proprietary blue base.

At Thriyv, every client is assessed by Dr Callum Shields (MBChB) before treatment, with skin tone, history, and goals factored into the recommended protocol.

    8. How should I prepare for my Obagi peel?

For 5–7 days before your session, avoid:

    • Active skincare ingredients — retinol, tretinoin, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C in high concentrations
    • Waxing, threading, or hair removal in the treatment area
    • Microneedling, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments
    • Intense sun exposure or sunbeds
    • Recent chemical peels from other clinics

Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. We provide full written aftercare following your treatment.

    9. What’s the aftercare like after an Obagi Blue Peel Radiance?

    Aftercare is straightforward but essential:

    • Apply SPF 50 daily — non-negotiable. Sun exposure post-peel risks pigmentation
    • Skip retinol and acids for 72 hours — let your skin heal first
    • Moisturise regularly — your skin will feel tight and dry initially
    • Skip heavy makeup for 24 hours — let the skin breathe
    • Avoid exfoliation, scrubs, or harsh cleansers for 1 week
    • Avoid the gym, saunas, swimming, and very hot water for 48 hours

Mild flaking, dryness, or tightness over the following 3–7 days is normal and expected — this is the controlled exfoliation working.

    10. Is there any downtime after the peel?

Minimal — and this is one of the Blue Peel Radiance’s biggest advantages over deeper peels:

    • Immediately after: mild redness, slight tingling — both subside within hours
    • 24–48 hours: skin may feel tight and slightly dry
    • 3–7 days: light flaking and exfoliation (gentle, not dramatic peeling)
    • 1 week onwards: fully restored, glowing skin

Most clients return to work the same afternoon and resume normal activities (with SPF) the next day. Perfect for clients who can’t take time off — sometimes called a “lunchtime peel.”

    11. Can I have the Obagi peel during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

No — we recommend waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding have ended. The salicylic acid component of the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

We can guide you toward safe pregnancy-friendly alternatives including LED light therapy, gentle enzyme treatments, and pregnancy-safe skincare protocols. Book a consultation with Dr Cal and we’ll create a safe alternative plan for your skin during this period.

    12. Can the Obagi peel be combined with other treatments?

Yes — and chemical peels are one of the most effectively combined treatments in clinical aesthetics. Common stacks at Thriyv:

    • Obagi peel + microneedling (spaced 2 weeks apart) — combined exfoliation and collagen building
    • Obagi peel + polynucleotides — skin renewal plus deep regeneration
    • Obagi peel + red light therapy — accelerated healing and amplified glow
    • Obagi peel + anti-wrinkle injections — addresses surface and dynamic ageing simultaneously
    • Obagi peel + skin boosters or Sunekos — full-spectrum skin quality protocol

Dr Cal builds combination protocols around your skin and goals — peels rarely work hardest in isolation.

    13. Is the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance safe?

The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is one of the most clinically established medical-grade peels available. Contraindications include:

    • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
    • Active cold sores or skin infections in the treatment area
    • Recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use within 6 months
    • Active eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea flare-up
    • Recent sunburn or sun exposure
    • Known allergies to salicylates or peel components

Every client at Thriyv is medically screened by Dr Callum Shields (MBChB) before treatment. From 2026, DHSC licensing reforms will tighten standards across the UK chemical peel industry — Thriyv already operates at the clinical standard the law is moving toward.

    14. Where is Thriyv’s Obagi peel clinic in Manchester?

We’re at 14–16 Whitworth Street, Manchester, M1 3BS — in the heart of Manchester city centre, ideally located between Piccadilly Station and Oxford Road Station. Our Wellness & Aesthetics Hub combines Obagi peels with the wider Obagi Medical range, microneedling, polynucleotides, red light therapy, and the full clinical aesthetics menu — all under medical supervision.
