Polynucleotides Treatment

Thriyv’s Polynucleotide Treatments offer a powerful new way to restore your skin – without changing who you are. Backed by decades of research and designed to stimulate your skin’s natural repair systems, polynucleotides go far beyond surface-level results.

Unlike dermal fillers that simply add volume, polynucleotides help your skin heal and regenerate from within. They activate your fibroblast cells – essential for collagen, elastin, and hydration – giving you firmer, healthier, more radiant skin that’s truly yours.

If you are a new client, we strongly recommend booking one of our consultation services to ensure your treatment plan aligns perfectly with your goals and concerns.

How can Polynucleotides help me?

Sometimes skincare stops working the way it used to. You’re eating well, using good products, and doing all the right things – but the skin just isn’t responding like it used to. That’s where polynucleotides come in! Unsure whether Polynucleotides are for you? Check out some of the concerns Polynucleotides can help with:

  • Fine lines, sagging or crepey texture that no serum seems to shift
  • Persistent dark circles, puffiness, or hollowness under the eyes
  • Redness, pigmentation, or scarring that won’t fade
  • Dullness or dryness that doesn’t match your lifestyle
  • A desire to age naturally – without volume or visible change

Polynucleotides don’t mask problems – they help your skin work better. The result? A gradual, natural improvement in how your skin looks, feels, and functions.

Thriyv Manchester offering Wellness Therapies and Medical Aesthetics

What A Polynucleotides Treatment looks like at Thriyv

A personalised consultation

Every aesthetics treatment at Thriyv begins with a comprehensive consultation. On your arrival at our Manchester City Centre wellness hub, one of our medical professionals will review your medical history, discuss your aesthetics goals and how Thriyv can help you achieve them. If all is well, and depending on your timescales, your treatment will go ahead the same day or be scheduled for a later date of your choosing.

As part of our commitment to client safety, our medical professionals may deem you unsuitable to progress with your intended treatment. Depending on the circumstances, your treatment may be deferred to a later date or postponed indefinitely. Regardless, your medical practitioner will fully inform you as to why and what alternatives may be available to you in the meantime.

We also use premium, comfortable treatment beds, high strength numbing cream and top quality needles to help you relax and minimise discomfort whilst you undergo your transformation.

Aftercare/downtime

On completion of your treatment, you’ll be provided with thorough aftercare guidance including tips and tricks on how to minimise swelling. The downtime post-Polynucleotides Treatment is typically minimal, however this varies from person-to-person.

To aid with recovery and ensure your Polynucleotides settle, it’s recommended you avoid the following during the first 24 hours as a minimum:

  • Touching the area
  • Applying makeup to the area
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Engaging in strenuous activity (e.g., gym, workouts, runs)
  • Using saunas or steam rooms

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How long does a polynucleotide treatment take at Thriyv Manchester?

For new clients, your first appointment takes approximately 1 hour — including a medical consultation, facial assessment, and discussion of treatment areas with Dr Callum Shields (MBChB). For returning clients, follow-up treatments take approximately 30 minutes. We never compress the first appointment — proper assessment is what separates a clinical aesthetic result from a salon experience.

2. How much do polynucleotides cost at Thriyv?

Polynucleotide treatments at our Manchester clinic are £300 per area — substantially less than London clinic pricing (£350–£500 per area) for clinically equivalent treatment. A course of 3 sessions, spaced 3–4 weeks apart, is typically recommended for optimal results. Course pricing is available here

3. What are polynucleotides and how do they work?

Polynucleotides are highly purified DNA fragments that, when injected into the skin, trigger your body’s own regeneration response. Unlike dermal filler — which adds volume by sitting in the tissue — polynucleotides work at a cellular level, prompting your skin to rebuild itself.

The clinical effects include:

  • Stimulating fibroblast activity (the cells that produce collagen and elastin)
  • Increasing skin hydration and elasticity
  • Reducing fine lines, crepiness, and skin laxity
  • Improving skin tone, density, and brightness

Polynucleotides are classed as a bio-regenerator, not a filler — they don’t change the shape of your face, they regenerate the quality of your skin.

4. Are polynucleotides made from salmon DNA?

Yes — and it’s clinically safer than it sounds. The polynucleotides used in modern aesthetic medicine are purified DNA fragments extracted from salmon or trout sperm cells. Salmon DNA is used because it has the closest molecular structure to human DNA, with no immune reaction or rejection risk.

The DNA is:

  • Highly purified to pharmaceutical standards
  • Stripped of all protein (no allergy or genetic content)
  • Sterilised and processed under strict EU and UK medical device regulations
  • Used in licensed medical-grade products including Ameela, Plinest, and PhilArt

Polynucleotides have over 30 years of clinical use — originally developed in Italy in the 1990s for wound healing and orthopaedic regeneration. The aesthetic application is more recent but built on a long safety record.

5. What can polynucleotides treat?

Polynucleotides are most commonly used at Thriyv for:

  • Under-eye area — dark circles, hollowing, thin or crepey skin (the most-treated area in the UK)
  • Full face — overall skin quality, fine lines, dullness
  • Neck and décolletage — crepiness, skin laxity, lines
  • Jowls and lower face — early skin laxity and tone improvement
  • Hands — skin quality and ageing on the hands
  • Scalp — emerging use for hair loss and androgenetic alopecia
  • Acne scarring — improved skin texture and pigmentation

Dr Cal will assess your skin at consultation and recommend the right treatment areas and course length for your specific concerns.

6. When will I see results from polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides build results gradually — this isn’t an instant treatment:

  • 2–3 weeks: initial skin hydration and glow
  • 3–6 weeks: visible improvement in skin texture, tone, and brightness
  • 6–12 weeks: peak results from a full course (3 sessions)
  • 6–12 months: results maintained, with gradual decline

Unlike filler, you won’t see a “before and after” overnight. The clinical advantage is that results look natural and gradual — friends will say you look well, not that you look done.

7. How long do polynucleotide results last?

A full course of 3 treatments typically delivers visible results for 6–12 months. Maintenance treatments every 6–9 months preserve and build on results long-term. Many clients fold maintenance treatments into a wider skin protocol alongside microneedling, polynucleotides for the under-eye, and red light therapy.

8. Do polynucleotide injections hurt?

Mild discomfort is normal but well-managed. We apply medical-grade numbing cream to the treatment area before injection, and the polynucleotide product itself contains an anaesthetic component in some formulations. Most clients describe the sensation as brief pinpricks — the under-eye area is the most sensitive, the cheeks and face less so.

Post-treatment: mild tenderness for 24 hours is normal. We provide full written aftercare.

9. Is there any downtime after polynucleotide treatment?

Minimal but real. Expect:

  • Immediately post-treatment: small raised bumps at each injection site (these settle within 1–4 hours)
  • 24–48 hours: mild swelling, possible bruising, pinprick marks
  • 48–72 hours onwards: normal appearance, makeup can be reapplied

Most clients schedule treatments Thursday or Friday to allow the weekend for recovery. Avoid the gym, alcohol, saunas, and direct sun for 48 hours post-treatment.

10. What polynucleotide brand does Thriyv use?

Thriyv uses UK-licensed, medical-grade polynucleotide products only — including market-leading brands such as Ameela, Plinest, and PhilArt. These are the polynucleotides used in published clinical trials and licensed UK aesthetic practice.

Why this matters: under upcoming 2026 DHSC licensing rules, unbranded or grey-market polynucleotides will be illegal to inject in the UK. Many Manchester salons currently inject unlicensed or unbranded versions sourced cheaply online. As a doctor-led clinic, Thriyv only ever uses licensed products with full traceability — already operating to the standard the law is moving toward.

11. Can polynucleotides be combined with other treatments?

Yes — and they’re one of the most effectively stackable treatments in modern aesthetic medicine. Common combinations at Thriyv:

  • Polynucleotides + microneedling — amplified collagen response and deeper product penetration
  • Polynucleotides + Sunekos — combined regeneration and hydration
  • Polynucleotides + skin boosters — full-spectrum skin quality protocol
  • Polynucleotides + red light therapy — accelerated healing and collagen response
  • Polynucleotides + anti-wrinkle injections — addresses static lines and skin quality alongside dynamic lines

Dr Cal designs combination protocols based on your skin and goals — not a one-size product menu.

12. Are polynucleotides safe?

Polynucleotides have one of the strongest safety profiles in modern aesthetics — over 30 years of clinical use, no protein content, no allergy risk, no immune rejection. Contraindications include pregnancy, breastfeeding, active autoimmune conditions, active infection at the treatment site, and known fish allergies (extremely rare given the purification process, but screened for at consultation).

Every new client is medically assessed by Dr Callum Shields (MBChB) before treatment. Under 2026 DHSC licensing reforms, polynucleotide injection will be restricted to licensed medical professionals — Thriyv already operates at this clinical standard.

13. Am I a suitable candidate for polynucleotides?

Most healthy adults aged 25+ are suitable candidates. Polynucleotides are particularly effective for:

  • Clients with early signs of skin ageing — fine lines, dullness, reduced bounce
  • Clients with under-eye concerns — dark circles, hollowing, crepey skin
  • Post-pregnancy or post-significant weight loss clients with skin quality decline
  • GLP-1 patients dealing with rapid skin laxity from weight loss
  • Clients who want natural, regenerative results rather than filler or surgery

Polynucleotides are not suitable for clients seeking immediate visible change, significant volume restoration, or facial reshaping — for those goals, dermal filler or surgical referral may be more appropriate.
