Drink a glass of water. Walk at an easy pace. Leave tight gym kit off until tomorrow. After a lymphatic or pressotherapy session at Thriyv, that is the useful next hour.

The clinic is at 14–16 Whitworth Street, Manchester M1 3BS. Dr Callum Shields MBChB/MRCS leads a doctor-led team, registered with the CQC after a registration assessment. Bookings start with a screen. Individual results vary.

Treatment detail sits on our lymphatic drainage massage therapy page. For the suit, the console, and how you arrive, read what to expect in a pressotherapy session.

What to do when you get home

Keep the rest of the day simple. Sip water through the afternoon. Walk if you can. Wear clothes that sit loosely on the legs and waist. Desk work is usually fine.

If you feel light-headed when you stand, sit down and wait. Call the clinic if you feel unwell in a way that is more than ordinary tiredness.

What to skip today

Skip a hard gym class, a long hot bath, tight shapewear, and a heavy drinking session. The tissue has been worked or compressed. Heat, alcohol, and a punishing workout sit poorly on top of that.

You do not need a special diet list. Eat as you usually would. If someone at the desk gave you extra instructions for your history, follow those first.

How long will I feel different?

Some people feel lighter or less tight the same day. Some notice it after they have been up and walking. Some notice very little. Heat, salt, sitting, and the rest of the week all play a part. A heavy desk day can bring the tight feeling back.

There is no set number of hours. A return visit, if one is useful, is decided in clinic after we have seen you.

How can I tell it helped?

Clothes may sit more easily. Legs or a midsection may feel less heavy. You may need the loo as moved fluid is processed. Those are comfort notes. Judge them over the next day, once you have been moving around.

If you booked because of a medical problem, say so at screening so we can point you to the right care. If nothing feels different, tell us at the next contact. A clinician can decide whether another session is worth doing.

What might I feel afterwards?

Tiredness is common. Skin can look pink where a suit or hands sat. Strap or seam marks can show for a short time. A dull ache as the tissue settles is usual. Standing too quickly can make you light-headed.

A clinician may decline treatment if you have an active infection, known or suspected deep vein thrombosis, uncontrolled heart failure, severe varicose veins, or if you are pregnant. Recent surgery, implanted devices, and some circulatory problems need a proper history. If the intake is unclear, we delay.

If pain worsens after you leave, or you get new one-sided calf swelling, chest pain, or breathlessness, contact the clinic or urgent care. Call 0161 566 5099 or email info@thriyv.co.uk if you are unsure.

Frequently asked questions

What not to do after lymphatic drainage massage?

Skip a hard workout, a long hot bath, tight shapewear, and a heavy drinking session. Sit if you feel light-headed. Drink water and walk when you are ready. Follow any extra instructions given for your history.

How do toxins leave the body after lymphatic massage?

Fluid has been moved. Drink water. Your kidneys and the rest of ordinary physiology handle it from there. There is no timetable that names an organ, and no extra cleanse to buy.

How long do lymphatic drainage effects last?

Some people feel less tight the same day. Some notice little. Heat, salt, sitting, and the rest of the week matter. There is no set hour-count. A further visit is decided after screening.

How to tell if your lymphatic drainage is working?

A less heavy feel, clothes sitting more easily, needing the loo. Give it until you have been up and walking. If you came with a medical complaint, say so at consultation.

What are the negative effects of lymphatic drainage massage?

Tiredness, pink skin, needing the toilet, and sometimes a dull ache. A clinician may decline treatment in pregnancy, with DVT, uncontrolled heart failure, severe varicose veins, or active infection. Worsening pain, breathlessness, or new one-sided calf swelling after a session should be reviewed.
