Pelvic Floor Treatment in Manchester

Leak a little when you cough, sneeze or laugh? Pelvic floor EMS is a non-surgical option at our doctor-led clinic on Whitworth Street, near Piccadilly. You sit fully clothed on a pelvic floor chair while focused electromagnetic stimulation makes your pelvic floor muscles contract. For some people, this may help with bladder weakness and stress incontinence. Each session takes 40 minutes, so you can get on with your day afterwards.

£80 per session, or 6 sessions for £400.

The benefits

How a pelvic floor chair may help with bladder leaks

01
Fewer leaks

If you leak a little when you cough or sneeze, that is often called stress urinary incontinence. As a stress incontinence treatment, pelvic floor EMS aims to strengthen your pelvic floor, which may help reduce those leaks.

02
Confidence in everyday moments

Laughing, sneezing, running, jumping or lifting can all put pressure on your bladder. So a stronger pelvic floor may help you feel more confident doing them.

03
Fewer dashes to the loo

Some people feel they always need to know where the nearest toilet is. Over a course, this treatment may help you feel less rushed.

04
Fully clothed and easy

It is non-invasive, and you stay fully clothed. You simply sit and read, or scroll your phone, for the 40-minute session.

The treatment

What is pelvic floor chair treatment?

Leaks when you laugh, sneeze or lift are common, and you don’t have to just put up with them. So if your pelvic floor feels weaker than it used to, this treatment is one option to talk through with us.

How it works
Pelvic floor EMS uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic stimulation, often shortened to HIFEM. The chair sends gentle pulses into the muscles you sit on. As a result, your pelvic floor contracts again and again while you rest.

No undressing
You stay fully clothed for the whole session. There is no gel, no probe and no need to lie down.

A calm 40 minutes
Each session lasts 40 minutes. Afterwards, there is no downtime, so you can head straight back to work.

Is it right for you?

Who it’s for

Pelvic floor EMS may suit adults who want to strengthen their pelvic floor. Your clinician confirms whether it suits you at your consultation, so nothing goes ahead until you both agree.

  • Leaks when you laugh or sneeze. If small leaks are holding you back, this may help. Our bladder leaks treatment in Manchester is non-surgical, and you stay fully clothed.
  • Postnatal recovery. After your postnatal check, it may help as part of your recovery.
  • Menopause. If your pelvic floor feels weaker around the menopause, it may help you rebuild strength.
  • Men after prostate surgery or treatment. Some men notice leaks afterwards, and we can talk through whether it may help.

Also, this is a wellbeing service rather than a diagnosis. So if you have pain, blood in your urine or sudden changes, please see your GP first.

Your safety comes first

01

Doctor-led consultation

Every first visit starts with a consultation. During it, our clinician reviews your medical history, medicines and goals. After that, you agree a plan together.

02

Health checks before you start

Pelvic floor EMS is not for everyone. For example, we will not treat you if you are or might be pregnant. Also, a pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted electronic device rules it out. Metal implants near the pelvis or hips, a coil, epilepsy, recent pelvic surgery or a urine infection also need a clinician’s view first.

03

Not sure yet?

Not sure it’s right for you? Book a doctor-led consultation first. Then, if the treatment does not suit you, we will not go ahead.

How it differs from EMS body sculpting

Pelvic floor EMS and EMS body sculpting both use electromagnetic stimulation. However, they are separate treatments with different goals. Here, you sit on a chair to work your pelvic floor. By contrast, body sculpting uses applicators on areas such as the tummy and thighs.

If your goal is muscle tone and stubborn fat rather than your pelvic floor, see EMS body sculpting instead.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does a pelvic floor chair actually work?

The chair makes your pelvic floor muscles contract many times in each session. How much it helps varies from person to person, so your clinician will talk through realistic expectations at your consultation.

No. Emsella is a brand of pelvic floor chair made by BTL, and it is not the device we use. We use the EM Shape Neo with its dedicated pelvic floor seat, which also uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic stimulation to contract the pelvic floor muscles. Your clinician can explain how it compares at your consultation.

It may help. Strengthening your pelvic floor may help reduce leaks when you laugh, cough or sneeze, although results vary from person to person. Your clinician will talk this through at your consultation.

Our programme is six 40-minute sessions over three to four weeks. Your clinician confirms what suits you at your consultation.

No. You stay fully clothed for the whole session.

Most people feel tingling and strong muscle contractions. The intensity is adjusted to what you’re comfortable with.

It is not suitable straight after birth. Your clinician will check how long ago you gave birth and whether you have had your postnatal check, and will only go ahead when it is right for you.

You should not have it if you are or might be pregnant, or if you have a pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted electronic device. Metal implants near the pelvis or hips, a coil, epilepsy, recent pelvic surgery or a urine infection also need a clinician’s view first.

A single 40-minute session costs £80. The 6-session programme costs £400, and if you start with a single session, your £80 is deducted in full.

No. It is a different treatment with a different goal. Pelvic floor EMS works the muscles you sit on, while EMS body sculpting focuses on muscle tone and stubborn fat.
